I remember looking on CNN as the Berlin Wall came down; facinated because I never imagined I would witness the end of The Cold War that way. Actually it was the beginning of the end of the Cold War, but I was present (unnuked) in this moment of history. Now there seems to be a new Cold War developing; this time not between superpower nations but within THE only superpower nation. Yep, you betcha, as SP would say right here in the good ole USA....
...The two-party system is moving us close to 'Civil War' except there's nothing 'civil' about what's going on. Democrats and Republicans are deeply entrenched, in a show-no-mercy/take-no-prisoners confrontation, that if left unchecked will lead to the collapse of this nation as a whole from within. Osama Bin Laden could not have planned this so well, why help him? Let's take the case of healthcare reform: I have been hearing so much rhetoric from both sides that I recently asked an outstanding critic which proposal he disliked most. "What do you mean? Obama's of course!" Then I asked what he liked about the Senate Finance Committee propopsal or the House Tri-Committee, American's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, HB 3200 or the Representative Tom Price (Republican Study Committee) Empowering Patients First Act(H.R. 3400) and it was basically 'huh?', 'huh?' and 'huh?' I realized then and there that all that was being spouted was a regurgitation of party propoganda; an old Cold War tactic.
Now I'm unemployed and part of that 50 million that have no insurance and I'm afraid, no, terrified of getting ill or having an accident, my kids are in the same boat. I had insurance then I lost it when the company closed down, then I got insurance only to lose it again when the company merged with another. COBRA is more than unemployment compensation, so for those who are comfortably insured and want to sit and pontificate about the 'evil' of healthcare reform I say 'shove it' and I can say that because its my blog (see disclaimer)! Famililes of Republicans, Democrats and Independents are affected and are waiting on you elected officials to help.
If the political intent is to stifle any movement on pure partisan lines then the only victim will be AMERICA, you betcha, the same old AMERICA both sides swear they love so much. Problem is that America is not an 'it', a prize to be won; AMERICA is people, it's US. To those REPS who won't even listen before they condemn or those DEMS who are never satisfied because their self seeking agendas are not met fast or far enough I urge, no, I tell you do not claim you speak for the 'REAL AMERICA' because we are more than your one cause and agenda.
Obama's plan can never provide all the answers: he's not that good...no one is, nor can the Senate Finance Committee nor the Tri-House Committe nor the Republicans, but each will have something good that we need, AMERICA needs. True patriots need to stop politicing and start working TOGETHER. Now I could have linked you to each proposal mentioned above, but I want you to do some of your own leg work and research it and also because I don't want to be accused of being disengenuous. Peace.
Hi, welcome to my weekly blog. I'm deacon Michel and I love blogging and the healthy exchange of constructive ideas. Now my mind has been known to wander on a million different things all at once so don't be surprised at what you find here. I often scratch my head and go 'Huh?' at my own thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts with me.
This blog reflects MY ongoing Christian journey: insights gained through the Holy Spirit, my experiences, my studies, my relationships. The content of this website is solely that of Deacon Michel du Chaussee, and does not represent the Archdiocese of Miami or any other entity of the Roman Catholic Church in any official capacity. Needless to say, I hope that none of my writings are contrary to the doctrines of faith and morals that are reflected in Sacred Tradition or as taught and guarded by the Magisterium of the Church or to the truths of God as revealed in the Holy Scriptures.
