Mayan Calendar and The Last Samurai. (HUH?)

Brace yourself, cuz here it comes! In November, Columbia Pictures is releasing the disaster movie 2012 dealing with the end of time per the mayan calendar. Google it (2012) and you'll be amazed at the amount of stuff out there. People are selling doomsday supplies....

...to help survive the catastrophe. Now I'm not going to speculate on what is or is not going to happen because I simply do not know and either way I can't do a thing about it. But I'll say this, people are jittery already and when this movie comes out it's Y2K squared (although people seemed to have forgotten how that turned out to be a dud)!

Which brings me back to the 2003 movie, the Last Samurai (Huh?) Bear with me because this makes sense only in my mind. At the end of the movie there is a discussion between the Emporer and Capt. Algren (Tom Cruise) about the samurai leader, Katsumoto, who was killed with nearly all his clan. It went like this:

Emperor Meiji: Tell me how he died.
Algren: I will tell you how he lived.

Ah ha! Did you get it? Well what I mean to say is that it is what we do or how we live between our birth and the end in 2012 (if it is in fact the end) that gives our life any significance. I can't stop 2012 nor can I change 2008 (heck I can't change 1 minute ago) but I can take ownership for NOW. You can too; join me in making all the 'nows' we have meaningful. Leave 2012 or any other predicted end dates to the One who gave us time and destines us for eternity. I'll leave you with this: I don't need to know what the stars hold for me because I know who holds the stars.

Peace

I am from the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean and even on our small island of 1.3 million people, a lot of them are anxious about 2012.

Love the cartoon.

Hi, welcome to my weekly blog. I'm deacon Michel and I love blogging and the healthy exchange of constructive ideas. Now my mind has been known to wander on a million different things all at once so don't be surprised at what you find here. I often scratch my head and go 'Huh?' at my own thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts with me.
